Stolpersteine SH - Remembering the Victims of National Socialism in Schleswig-Holstein
Stolpersteine SH is an educational app that allows users to learn more about the life stories and suffering of the victims of National Socialism in Schleswig-Holstein. The app is based on the Stolpersteine project initiated by artist Gunter Demnig inThese small memorial plaques, known as Stolpersteine, are embedded in the ground to commemorate the fate of individuals who were persecuted, murdered, deported, expelled, or driven to suicide during the time of National Socialism.
With this app, users can scan a Stolperstein using their iPhone camera to access the biography of the person being remembered. The app also provides a location feature to find Stolpersteine nearby. Additionally, it offers a memorial function using augmented reality, allowing users to place a candle at the Stolperstein and add a commemorative message and their name. These virtual candles remain visible to other app users for a period of seven days.
Furthermore, the app includes a cleaning guide for the Stolpersteine. Currently, it features all the Stolpersteine in the cities of Kiel and Rendsburg, with plans to expand its coverage to the entire Schleswig-Holstein region. Stolpersteine SH is a project of the Landesbeauftragter für politische Bildung Schleswig-Holstein and was implemented by the IT service provider dataport.
